What is the DSE?

2025-01-11 23:59:38
The Dossier Social Étudiant (DSE) allows all (future) students to apply for a scholarship based on social criteria and/or university residence housing. It must be completed online each year through your local Crous (the one corresponding to the Academy where you are currently studying) between March 1st and May 31st. This student grant is based primarily on family income from two years prior (N-2), the number of dependent children in the household, and the distance between the family home and the place of study. The documents and information provided in your Dossier Social Étudiant will enable the Crous services to assess your eligibility for a scholarship and determine the amount awarded. To help you complete your DSE correctly, we explain the steps you need to follow below.

Step 1: Are you eligible for a scholarship based on social criteria?

Before creating your DSE, you must verify if you are eligible for the university scholarship. With this online simulator, you can find out within minutes if you meet the Crous requirements. If you do, you can create your account on the official website immediately.

Step 2: How to create your DSE (on time)

Each year, you must submit a new scholarship application for the upcoming academic year. This year, the application process starts on March 1st, 2025, and we recommend not waiting too long to complete your DSE. Applications are processed in the order they are received!

If you want to receive your scholarship starting from September, your application must be complete and finalized before May 31st. During the application process, you will be required to submit several supporting documents. Your application will not be processed until all the required documents have been provided.

Once all documents have been submitted, you will need to pay a processing fee, which varies between €4 and €7 depending on the Academy.

Step 3: Receiving the decision and conditional scholarship notification

Between 1 to 3 months after submitting a complete application, you will receive a notification from the Crous services by email. This notification will inform you whether your scholarship application has been accepted or rejected. If accepted, the decision notification will grant you certain benefits as a scholarship student, such as exemption from the CVEC fee and your institution’s tuition fees.

Step 4: The CVEC, mandatory for higher education enrollment

The CVEC (Contribution de Vie Étudiante et de Campus) is a Student and Campus Life Contribution. It is collected by the Crous and must be presented to your institution during enrollment.

If you have received a conditional scholarship award, you will be fully exempt from paying the CVEC fee, highlighting the importance of starting the application process as early as possible.
You will not need to make any upfront payment or request a reimbursement afterward!

Step 5: Enrollment in your higher education institution

Once you have received your conditional scholarship notification and your CVEC payment certificate, you can proceed with your enrollment at your institution. As a scholarship student, you will be exempt from tuition fees. Your scholarship will only be activated once your institution issues a proof of enrollment (most commonly a certificate of enrollment). Depending on the institution, this document may be sent directly to the Crous, or you may need to submit it yourself via your personal online space.

Step 6: Prepare for the start of the academic year with peace of mind

This proof of enrollment confirms your registration in higher education. It allows the Crous to finalize the exact amount of your scholarship. Please remember that to receive your first monthly payment at the start of the academic year, you must complete all these administrative steps before May 31st. This ensures you will receive your first payment as early as September!
